Five Mock Interview Mistakes Sales Candidates Keep Making

After 200+ mocks this quarter, the same five mistakes keep killing strong candidates. Fix these before your next loop.

1. Burying the result. The hiring manager wants the outcome in the first sentence, then the story. Reverse it and they're already half-checked-out.

2. Using 'we' instead of 'I'. Panels are explicitly trained to discount 'we' answers. Even when the win was a team effort, narrate your specific contribution.

3. No numbers. ACV, cycle length, stakeholder count, ramp time. Anchor every story in at least three.

4. Asking generic closing questions. 'What's the culture like?' signals you didn't do the homework. Ask about the team's current quota attainment, the ramp plan for new hires, or the top deal in the forecast.

5. Skipping the trial close at the end. 'Based on what we discussed, do you have any concerns about my fit for this role?' Most candidates won't ask it. The ones who do consistently advance.
